Electric Scooter

Electric scooters have become ever more popular as the technology has improved and as environmental consciousness has become increasingly important. Rather than running off of environmentally harmful, and expensive, fossil fuels, this type of scooter runs off of common household electricity. The first truly functional electric scooters began appearing in the mid-1990’s.

The Scoot’Elec, made by Peugeot, debuted as one of the first commercially available electric scooters in 1996. It was modified from their introductory level gas scooter called the Zenith. This scooter utilized a four horsepower DC motor. It is capable of charging from empty to 95% in two hours from any common household plug. It was later succeeded by more advanced models capable of reaching speeds around sixty miles per hour.

The technologies used in electric scooters continue to improve. They have become increasingly popular but tend to still be more expensive than gas powered scooters. They also are a bit less reliable. Nothing should discourage you from purchasing a gas powered scooter though. It is just important to remember that it will have a different set of needs and concerns than a gas scooter.
