One reason they have stood the test of time is that a small engine makes the craft much safer than its larger engine counterparts. For larger engine sizes, countries like the USA, Australia, and many countries in the EU require a special motorcycle class and licensing to be obtained before being permitted to operate the scooter. This contributes greatly to the popularity of 50cc engines.

The final virtue of a 50cc scooter is the fuel economy. Now bear in mind that even larger engine scooters are still quite fuel efficient, but they will consume much more petrol than this scooter. Many scooters of this caliber need only be fueled every few weeks depending on commuting distances. A smaller engine scooter certainly has its virtues.
